C4NI Web Resource Development

This web resource was developed with OFMDFM to inform Northern Ireland citizens about the various ways to get involved with making government policy. It was created with cross-community support, and consultation with voluntary organisations.

I was editor and lead copywriter responsible for all the finished web content, audio and video scripts, and pdf material. It was a huge task to complete the workload within the 3-month deadline, and I succeeded in achieving the goal on time and under budget.

Core Concept – Web Development

The core concept of the website was to present material in a tiered system, with video, audio and interactive elements at the top, followed by succinct online explanatory material, and then in-depth downloadable material. The pdf downloadable material included worksheets, checklists, and advice from experts. There were also documentary interviews that could shared across media platforms.

The website pursued a vibrant and welcoming tone, far removed from the usual toned-down and stand-offish government approach. This included the use of custom images of real locations within Northern Ireland, rather than generic photo stock, which added to the local flavour of authenticity – a website for all the people of Northern Ireland.

Downloadable Material

The main focus of the downloadable material from the site was to enable people to work out their next steps in influencing government policy change. Such a large, nebulous subject was broken down into focused topics, and material then generated to take people through in a logical, step by step manner. The downloadable material included advice, checklists, and key points from experts.
